What We'll Learn Together

This course is a comprehensive look at Judaism, based on my years of teaching people just like you, both in person and online. Across our 40+ video lessons, we will cover everything you need to know to feel comfortable and confident in Jewish life. To help bring the lessons to life, I’ve also included videos and songs in them to illustrate what we’re learning.

Here is a taste of what we’ll cover:

Jewish Texts

We'll study the Torah (the Bible's books of Genesis through Deuteronomy) along with traditional commentaries that help open up the text. We’ll also explore other books of the Hebrew Bible, the Mishnah and Gemara (which together make up the Talmud), and Midrash (rabbinic interpretations of the Bible). And we’ll learn from the Siddur, the Jewish prayer book, so you can feel at home during a service.

  • No Hebrew experience required: All of our texts are in both Hebrew and English, so don't worry at all if you don't know the language yet.

Jewish Thought, Beliefs, and History

We’ll explore core Jewish beliefs and learn the basics of Jewish history across the ages—from antiquity and the Middle Ages to the modern era, including the Holocaust, historical and modern antisemitism, and the rebirth of Israel. We’ll also look at the legal framework of Halakhah (Jewish law). And to help you feel even more connected, we’ll learn the Hebrew alef-bet and the basics of Hebrew reading.

Jewish Practice

Along with learning the whats and the whys of Judaism, we'll also focus on the hows. This is where Jewish thought becomes a real-world, everyday practice. We’ll learn how to celebrate Shabbat and the Jewish holidays, how to follow Kashrut (keeping kosher), and how to navigate the Jewish lifecycle, from birth to death—and beyond (yes, that's a Jewish belief!).

I'm Rabbi Steven Schwarzman, and I created Judaism Online to bring authentic Jewish learning directly to you, fitting seamlessly into your own schedule, wherever you are in the world.

I am a Rabbi, ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTS) in New York in 2008, and a member of the Rabbinical Assembly. Over the years, I've had the privilege of teaching Judaism to hundreds of students from all walks of life, serving congregations in the United States and Canada. Today, I'm privileged to live, study, and teach in the ancient and modern city of Jerusalem.

Before my ordination, I spent 14 years in the fast-paced Israeli tech sector as a trainer for a leading technology firm, alongside my work as a professional writer, translator, and author of four published books.

This unique blend of deep Jewish learning and real-world experience means I don't teach Judaism as a dry academic subject. I try to translate ancient tradition into a practical, engaging, and meaningful spiritual discipline for modern adults.
